Blues with a smileReviewed by P. L. Straw, 2009-03-06
I simply cannot listen to this album without breaking into a smile each time I hear it. I had the good fortune of hearing these guys live at small bar venues many years ago, and wherever they played, it was a party atmosphere. They played, we listened and everyone had a great time. Tom Ball has a great blues voice - it slides, and gravels and vibrates and comes in loud and clear - and his harmonica playing comes in right on target and to watch him do it live, it's pretty amazing. And Kenny Sultan really can fingerpick that guitar in great blues fashion (albeit, maybe not on this album much) and, aside from the occasional accompaniment, it's just two guys sitting on stools playing the blues. And what a fun time they're having. Like I said, makes me smile every time.
Very DisappointedReviewed by Einsteins Clone, 2008-12-17
I read in a FINGERSTYLE magazine that this guy was a fantastic
fingerstyle blues guitarists. I bought it thinking it would be like
acoustic Hendrix or Clapton without the singing, in otherwords pure
acoustic instrumental blues.
It turned out to be singing and strumming acoustic blues,..and
Hillbilly type blues at that. Not that there's anything wrong with
Hillbilly blues,..but there was no FINGERSTYLE, it was strumming
and some weird grating singing voices.
I left the Cd in the Laundry room, hoping someone else would take
it.
